Ever since I read Jane Goodall's accounts about the lives of chimpanzees I wanted to see these apes in the wild. Fortunately, my dream came true this summer in Uganda. Words cannot describe the overwhelming feeling of facing men's closest relatives im their natural habitat.
It was not easy to take photos in the dense and dark forest, but I think I got some decent ones..

Today I shot the first photograph of a new fine art series and and all these wonderful people (and some more) had their parts in it.

First of all I want to thank @wheelsunderpressure for letting me use his service station as a setting and sacrificing the bigger part of his Sunday to help me build the set.

Thank you to all the great models @christinciura @dan_illo @jo.si.1 @taeddy075 @florian_hartmann_666 @the_a_m_g @stocki_45 and @maksimak who endured the heat and posed again and again until we got the picture right.

Thank you once again @andy_lien_ and @timmefi_visuals for your videos that (as I sometimes think) turn out better than my photos.

A big thanks to our drone cowboy @zorft for his drone Action shots that I am really looking forward to and so should you.

Last but not least, thank you @lindagltz and @fechnerbenjamin for helping me with all the logistics, testing out the lights and doing all the other stuff that is so important to get such a big project done.

Not really a wildlife photograph, but still one of my recent highlights.
While I was totally absorbed in photographing this little cat with a huge rat in its mouth, some other cats stole a huge piece of bacon from by bag. I was asking myself if the little cat was posing in front of my camera on purpose to take away my attention from my belongings and give his friends a chance to steal my bacon :)

Liebe Freunde,
am 11.9. um 19 Uhr werde ich in der Thalia - Buchhandlung in Hagen im Gespräch mit der Dozentin für Kulturmanagement und Kunstberaterin Britta Blom über meinen künstlerischen Werdegang berichten, meine besten Bilder zeigen und erzählen, wie ich sie geschossen habe. Ich bringe auch neue Bilder mit, die bisher noch nirgendwo gezeigt wurden.

Es wird eine tolle Veranstaltung in einem sehr schönen Rahmen, bei der ihr einen Blick hinter die Kulissen werfen könnt und Dinge erfahren werdet, die ich hier auf Instagram nicht teile.

Da die Teilnehmerzahl begrenzt ist, schreibt bitte eine Mail an thalia.hagen@thalia.de falls ihr kommen möchtet.

Hello Hippo! This guy looks cute but hippos are strong, faster than humans and quite aggressive. They kill about 500 people a year, more than any other large animal. After taking this picture from a distance of about 5m I left because staying longer at the pond would not have been safe.

This summer one of my dreams has finally come true

This summer one of my dreams has finally come true. I have spent some time with a mountain gorilla family im the jungle of Uganda. Pictures cannot show the feelings of awe and joy I went through when sitting just an arm's length away from these gentle giants. This was one of the best travel and wildlife experiences I have ever had.

[Lethal Tenderness 1/2] Just as our boat floated a

[Lethal Tenderness 1/2] Just as our boat floated around the curve of the river we saw a jaguar crossing the water towards a huge caiman basking on the opposite bank.

Rushing at the reptile the jaguar was so close that she splashed water on us and made fish jump into the boat.
The caiman tried to escape into deeper water but the jaguar was too fast and got hold of it. After a short fight in the water the cat pulled its prey onto the bank and killed it with a bite into the throat.

Luckily, ours was the only boat witnessing this dramatic scene so the jaguar kept eye contact with my camera while I was documenting the whole event.
Note, how the jaguar is holding the caiman with its right paw in the first photo. It looks almost tender, but is lethal at the same time, hence the title of the image.

These images are part of the best photo documentary series 2023 awarded by National Geographic Germany. Available as limited edition prints on my homepage.
