Thank you very much @wdr for making a short clip about me and my work.

We are looking for cats right now in the Serengeti

We are looking for cats right now in the Serengeti, but alas not much luck so far. Still no leopard and no cheetah. This is why I wanted to share to this beauty from the Pantanal from the last year.

It took me about 5 hours to take these photos of a

It took me about 5 hours to take these photos of a macaw couple flying every half an hour or so between the walls of the Chapada de Guimares - Canyon.
The macaws always hid in some crack but announced their flight with their typical squawks. Photographing them was a big challenge since they moved quite quickly and one had to focus, compose and shoot within a few seconds. In top of that I suffered under the hot Brazilian sun since there was no shade and endured tons of Borrachudos, small flies that bite through one's skin plus the occasional mosquito. At the end of the day my arms and legs were bleeding from dozens of small bites and my back was not much better. However, I am pretty happy with the photos and this is what counts.

In Yala National Park I witnessed a show a male peacock put on for a female. The whole thing lasted for about 10 minutes and while we were totally impressed, the female was not and moved on. I felt really sorry for the guy.

I have arrived in Uganda and driving out tomorrow

I have arrived in Uganda and driving out tomorrow to photograph some wildlife, so wish me luck, because you never know, what you will get. In the meantime I wanted to show some unpublished material from Sri Lanka.

What you see here is my morning at the spectacular lions's rock, shot from different angles. Rarely have I experienced a more majestic site.

A new adventure is only one night's sleep away sin

A new adventure is only one night's sleep away since tomorrow we are flying to Uganda to see wild chimps, gorillas and lots of other wildlife. After that we are flying to Tanzania to spend some time camping in the Serengeti. I am really excited about what might be one of the greatest adventures of my life. Wish me luck and a lot of great wildlife encounters.

The fish market in Mirissa's harbour was one of the most horrible places I have been shooting. After 3 hours parts of dead fish were all over my shirt, shoes and even face. It took me a while in the shower to get rid of the smell. However, I think it is important to document such scenes.

To me street photography is not only about people,

To me street photography is not only about people, cars and architecture. I also love to discover beautiful things around the corner that most people would not even notice and that I would also have ignored a few years ago.
Becoming better at photography means learning to see beauty in the mundane.

Great news, two of my photos have made it through

Great news,
two of my photos have made it through the first round of the Urban Photo Awards. It is still a long way to the shortlist, but considering that this year 17000 photos had been entered into the competition this is already an achievement.

One of my most memorable travel experiences so far

One of my most memorable travel experiences so far has been a visit to the elephant freedom project in Sri Lanka. Here a local family ist taking care of two elephants that were mistreated in the past. I could write more about what you will see and learn there, but words really cannot describe thefeeling of standing next to the biggest land mammal on Earth.

The most difficult shooting location for me is my home city, simply because it takes a lot of effort and creativity to see the streets I am walking every day with fresh eyes.

But this is what makes you a photographer. Everyone can shoot street in New York or London, but consistently producing interesting work in an unspectacular place is a different matter.

"All the world's a stage and all the men and women

"All the world's a stage and all the men and women merely players." - What looks like a scene from a musical is a candid shot I took at Düsseldorf station waiting for my train.
As usually I had my camera with me and saw a potential photo on the opposite platform. For a brief moment all the figures positioned themselves without overlapping creating a perfect composition. The cherry on top is the third person from the left being a little bit closer to the camera than the other figures and standing just below the "Ditsch" - signboard. His position and body language make him a lead character in the scene, probably giving a soliloquy or performing a solo number.
This is what I love about street photography. With luck, a good eye and timing one can turn everyday scenes into art.
