A nice surprise was waiting for me in the mail tod

A nice surprise was waiting for me in the mail today. My photo "Of Bikes and Birds" was awarded third place out of 740 competing photos by 355 photographers in the street photography competition organized by the German photography magazine @fotoforum.de.
This is one of my favourite street photographs ever. Looking at it I remember the wonderful days I spent shooting the streets of Naples, where the photo was taken, and eating pizza 3 times a day.

Some more experimental low key portraits I recently took of the amazing @sighhlucy in my living room using various lights, a fog machine and some books from my private library for props.

We wanted to create a dreamy mood by using color, light and fog to give the photos a soft and not too digital look.

Ich bin immer noch überwältigt und unglaublich g

Ich bin immer noch überwältigt und unglaublich glücklich, letzten Freitag den Ruhr-Ennepe Kunstpreis 2023 verliehen bekommen zu haben.

Die vielen Reisen, die Nächte in den Dschungeln, Wäldern und Steppen, die Mosquitostiche, das Schlafen auf schimmeligen Matratzen, die unzähligen Anläufe, bei denen kein Foto gelungen ist, und die niemand sieht, außer meiner Frau @lindagltz, die die ganzen Strapazen oft auch noch meinetwegen erdulden muss, wofür ich ihr unglaublich dankbar bin, wurden nun auch in Form solch einer Würdigung belohnt.

Ich danke dem @maerkisches_museum_witten vom ganzen Herzen für die wunderbare Ausrichtung, Organisation und die Möglichkeit, meine Arbeit einem breiteren Publikum zu präsentieren. Mein "Tribunal der Tiere" und die anderen tollen Arbeiten wie z.B die von @berndgichtbrock, @pettyfue, @annette.jellinghaus und der Vorjahresgewinnerin @sarahkoesterfotografie sind noch bis Ende nächster Woche im Museum zu sehen.

Meiner herzlichsten Glückwunsche gehen außerdem an @sophiakirst.art und Christiane Heller, die zwei weiteren gleichberechtigten Gewinnerinnen des Preises. Auch ihre Arbeiten könnt ihr noch bis Ende nächster Woche im Museum genießen.

Zuallerletzt natürlich danke an @timmefi_visuals, @psychologiemitandreas
und @rragtime_cat dafür, dass ihr euch den Freitagabend frei genommen habt, um mich zu begleiten.

Falls euch meine Arbeiten gefallen, würde ich mich freuen, wenn ihr mich vom 27.10-29.10 auf der @contemporaryartruhr.de im Zeche Zollverein in Essen besuchen kommt. Dort wird mein bisher aufwendigstes Fotoprojekt sozusagen Weltpremiere feiern. Außerdem zeige ich Auszüge eines Fotobandes, an dem ich seit längerer Zeit arbeite. Ich würde mich sehr freuen, euch in Essen zu sehen.

In Zanzibar traditonal boats called dhows are stil

In Zanzibar traditonal boats called dhows are still widely used. One night when walking the beach on a low tide I noticed a fire in some distance. After having come closer I saw a man burning seeweed and clams from the underside of his dhow. He was able to do this since the water withdraws hundreds of meters and leaves all the boats lying on the wet sand for hours.
I love such encounters where you can get to learn things about your destination's culture that you would not find in magazines or books.

To be honest, Parnaiba is a pretty boring place that we should have skipped, but while walking the almost deserted town under a hot sun I and breezeless heat I took my camera with me and focused on colors and forms. These pictures are different from what I usually shoot but I try to mix up things once in a while. I hope you like the results nevertheless.

The sun has set but the Cariocas, the citizens of Rio de Janeiro, don't stop lifting. Lifting weight under a perfectly blue sky, a few meters away from the ocean and cooled down but a refreshing breeze is one of the best things you can do in Rio.

Havana at night looks like an american mafia movie

Havana at night looks like an american mafia movie set in the 50s. The cars, the architecture and the faded neon create this sense of nostalgia that I like so much and tried to capture in my photographs.

The spectacular Bahia Palace was incredibly crowde

The spectacular Bahia Palace was incredibly crowded, making clean architecture shots impossible. This is why I decided to shoot street instead and incorporate some of the people into the frame.
This shot was big luck, with no tourists blocking the view and the man standing perfectly framed inside the arch.
